Red Horse from the Four Horses of the Apocalypse
Series, 2020
Acrylic on Canvas,
48×30 inches
The Red Horse is the second figure in the arrival of the Biblical Apocalypse and represents war. This is not war amongst nations, as represented by Conquest, the rider of the White Horse, but rather war amongst men. He is less comprehensible to the human mind as our reality is deconstructed, his figure is represented as a caricature of human brute strength and rage, his upwielded sword encompassing the sky. He rides a fiery red warhorse through a world reduced to human bone, flesh and fire, a jungle of deconstructed humanity surrounds him as his horse tramples a field of skulls beneath its hooves.
As Covid forced many to stay home and abandon workplaces and schools, the mental health of communities were greatly affected. Domestic violence increased due to societal stress and people being forced to remain home together. Social issues such as race inequity were exposed at this time, and violent protest groups rose up. This led to widespread destruction of property, looting, and violence in most American cities. Differences in political ideology and the inflammation of such by news media fomented social unrest created even further divisions between people.
